Bio
My name is Laura Fries. I graduated from the University of Florida with degrees in English and Education. I went on to teach in Alachua County for 22 years. During this time, I intermittently conducted private tutoring and school readiness day camps. These were not only successful endeavors, I also thoroughly enjoyed the personal attention setting and the measurable results! I now live in St. Augustine. I have one daughter who is a senior in college planning to teach middle school math. Teaching is my passion, and I enjoy nothing more than helping a child gain confidence and find success in an area they are struggling with. I know how disheartening it can be to watch your child struggle and lose confidence and how frustrating it can be to not know how to help. Additionally, it can be difficult to know your child can achieve something but they are not given the tools needed. These are my most successful areas and I am excited to assist you and your child in eliminating frustration and increasing confidence and results.
Testimonials
Here are just a few of the reviews I have received from former students and parents of students:
Laura Fries is outstanding! Both my children had her as a teacher and summer tutor. Besides her cheerful and fun personality that draws kids to her, she also exhibits amazing care for each of her students. Even as she corrected my children's work they always felt like they were smart and could do the work. Both my kids are now in the Cambridge program at GHS, doing very well and my daughter just got in to a top 10 college. Part of their success is due to teachers like Ms. Fries who gave them a solid foundation with their studies and helped them believe in themselves. Any child and parent would be lucky to work with her!

I worked with Laura Fries for over three years and I can testify to her easy rapport with children. She was an incredible third grade teacher who had the unique gift of making learning fun and challenging. She focused on teaching basic skills and the importance of learning a solid foundation on which to build a better understand of a subject. She taught math, history and language arts. I saw firsthand how she handled children who were struggling; she never criticized or shamed them. She treated them as individuals and worked with them to create an effective learning plan. She is a gifted and talented teacher. If you are a parent looking to enhance your child’s learning potential, I encourage you to contact Ms. Fries.

Laura is a superior teacher. It's not just that she has a full and well-rounded knowledge of her subject areas, but her special skill is in being able to assess where a student is starting from, and then taking them step by step through the process of learning. She has a natural intuitive feel for where a student is struggling or is stuck, and then is able to frame what is needed to get them to understand the material and move past obstacles. She has a wonderful facility for communication, and her warm and positive approach makes students comfortable. In fact they gravitate toward her and enjoy the interaction, even if working on a subject that is difficult. She has just the right amount of push to help a student stretch without overwhelming them. Parents also find her easy to work with, and enjoy partnering with her to get the best results for all concerned.
